Ad of the Day (6.15.12)

Today’s advertisement is a little risqué, so be warned. I typically try to keep it clean and classy here at ViralNfection, but this campaign is just so creative and clever that I had to write about it. Check out what a ballsy Brazilian condom company did to boost sales – practically for free – after the jump.

The company in question is Olla Condoms – they wanted to boost their sales but they didn’t have a lot of money to spend on advertising so traditional methods were out. What they came up with is the “Unexpected Babies” campaign, which they launched using Facebook.

They would scour Facebook for young Brazilian men – for the sake of this example, let’s say one of their names is William Silva. They would then create a fake profile for a William Silva, Jr and send senior a friend request. The request came with a message: “Avoid surprises like this one,” along with a link to the company’s website.

This campaign is hilarious, to the point, and perfectly explains why these people would want to use their products. While some might say it is an invasion of privacy, I don’t really see it as that at all. With privacy settings being what they are these days, if these guys didn’t want to be found, they could hide pretty easily. Plus, it’s not like it accesses any of their personal information.
