I have some more information about the viral marketing campaign for “The Dark Knight Rises.” First of all, it has been confirmed that the two CIA documents I posted about earlier are in fact for TDKR. The first way it was confirmed was from something I missed yesterday. Wired was the first site to receive a CIA document and they posted on their website that, while they did know what movie it was for, they couldn’t say because they were a “superstitious and cowardly lot” and were told not to. That might not seem like a big deal to most, but Batman fans know that this is a very famous line dating back to Batman’s beginnings in the 40s:
The second confirmation that this was indeed the beginnings of the long-awaited viral marketing campaign for TDKR came from the film’s official Twitter account ten hours ago. Remember when @thefirerises was a big deal back when the first image of Bane was released? Well, they posted another CIA document, detailing the mission to find Dr. Pavel and bring him back to the United States, codenamed Operation Early Bird.
And, of course, there is a website for Operation Early Bird, which has a countdown clock that ends at 12 pm TODAY (Houston time). That’s right – something is going down TODAY! It’s about time, is all I have to say. Of course, stay tuned to ViralNfection as we will be following this the second something happens. Follow us on Twitter at @Viral_Nfection, because I will be live tweeting Operation Early Bird. Woo!
